Civic
Future Coalition’s Civic team invests in local, youth-led groups turning out young BIPOC voters and increasing grassroots support for local candidates in key states.

Future Coalition is committed to financing, resourcing, and supporting the GOTV efforts of youth-centered local organizations engaging young people in our target states: Arizona, Georgia, Florida, Alaska, Mississippi, Nevada, North Carolina, Texas, Michigan and Wisconsin.

In alignment with our bottom-up focus as an organization, our strategy supports the infrastructure behind partners leading work to turnout young people in local elections, including school board, city council, and state representative races.

Future Coalition is endorsing young and youth-serving candidates for local office across our target states (GA, AZ, FL, AK, MS, NC, TX, NV, WI, and MI.)

How We Support Local Organizers

Future Coalition Grant

Distributing at least $100K to groups, the Future Coalition Grant is a micro-grant designed to increase community, celebration, and collaboration. Intended to support events produced by at least two community groups throughout the 2024 election cycle and beyond, the Future Coalition Grant promotes intergroup connections and supports local grassroots partnerships.

Take It Back Network

The Take It Back Network provides space for 20 groups organizing around local elections to come together to share best practices and collaboratively solve problems. Member groups have access to FC’s resource offerings and trainings on tech, development, storytelling, comma, and budgeting as well as funding for their 2024 programs (up to $50,000 per group).

2024 Goals

Across our target states, we intend to:

  • Resource 20 grassroots groups to pay at least 2,000 young people to activate young voters
  • Mobilize 20% of young, BIPOC voters in targeted districts by resourcing local groups
  • Knock on 270,000 doors to expand support for endorsed local candidates and turn out young voters
  • Reach and engage 10 million voters across our communications efforts

2022 Impact

  • 11.6 million voters engaged via communications across 13 states
  • 2.9 million peer-to-peer text messages sent via textbanks
  • 88K doors knocked in competitive rural and urban districts
  • 1,500+ young organizers paid to canvas
  • 25 youth-led organizations engaged
  • 2 state-wide programs led

Previous Work

Organize for Democracy is a multi-issue partnership collective organizing to fill essential gaps for young (under 50), pro-democracy candidates running in swing district, down-ballot races in 2022.  O4D will spearhead efforts to raise money, mobilize volunteers, and expose down-ballot candidates to new donors and donor networks.

On the heels of our success convening and supporting a youth-led coalition that mobilized around the Georgia runoffs, we were excited to shift our momentum to New York City. In Our Hands is a youth-led group of NYC-based youth activists and community organizations. The coalition brings together a diverse array of issue-based organizations to unify around the needs of NYC’s youth in local elections.

The In Our Hands Coalition was able to engage over 7,000 attendees through over 70 voter engagement, education, and registration events. We worked to spread awareness about the primary election and new Ranked Choice Voting format through innovative engagement with our peers. Additionally, we built a comprehensive youth platform with concrete steps local officials can take to improve the lives of young people in New York; 55 candidates endorsed the platform, including a majority of City Council primary winners.

Future Coalition coordinated Peaches for Progress, a youth-led, intergenerational coalition working to mobilize young people throughout Georgia for the runoff elections. The coalition’s efforts to use experimental organizing tactics to mobilize youth audiences was featured on NBC News, Bloomberg, and The Hill.

Working so closely with new and established young organizers in Georgia allowed Peaches for Progress to send over 1.8 million text messages, register 2,800 new voters, and plan community engagement events throughout the runoff cycle that centered around engaging local organizers.
